Erlendur #7

The body of a dead child is found in the gardens of a Reykjavik apartment block on a cold January day; a young dark-skinned boy, lies face-down in his own blood, frozen to the ice. When the  police arrive on the scene, they suspect a horrific crime. Erlendur, Elinborg and Sigurdur Oli start their investigation and, through the darkness and the blizzards, gradually uncover facts that turn out to be chillier than an Arctic winter night.

Reviews

“A beautifully layered mystery notable for its breadth and depth. Indridason and his hero steadily improve with age.”

Kirkus Reviews

“This Icelandic tale is delivered with exquisite sensitivity.”

Marilyn Stasio, The New York Times

“What is it with those Scandinavians? For many years they have been producing crime novels of the most chilling and engrossing nature. However, one man stands out for his sense of highly believable drama, suspense and an almost effortlessly simple, yet captivating delivery. He is Arnaldur Indridason. ... Indridason might not be a welcome voice when it comes to the Icelandic tourist board, but he's one of the brightest sparks on the international crime writing circuit.”

Henry Sutton, The Mirror

“Beautifully written.”

Literary Review

“A rounded, superior example of the genre.”

The Sunday Telegraph

“Echoes of Maigret against the dour Icelandic landscape make this a character to treasure.”
