Isak Hardarson

(1956-2023) attended the Iceland Teachers’ Training College as well as studying Icelandic language at the University of Iceland. In 1982 Hardarson was awarded a prize for his first book of poetry Þriggja orða nafn (A Three-Word Name). Many more books of poems followed, along with a collection of short stories, a novel and a memoir. Hardarson has composed song lyrics, and his poems have been performed with music; poetry by him has also appeared in foreign journals and anthologies. For many years Hardarson has also been a prolific translator, having translated a number of books from English and the Scandinavian languages into Icelandic. From the outset, Hardarson’s poetry has attracted attention and been highly praised. He has been awarded a prize from the Icelandic State Radio Writers’ Fund; in 2011 his tenth poetry book Rennur upp um nótt (Sunrise at Night), published in 2009, was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize. Hitinn á vaxmyndasafninu – sjö nútímakraftaverkasögur (The Warmth of the Wax Museum – Seven Modern Miracle Stories) was published in 2021 and contains clever, vivacious and concise stories from our present society – sharp and memorable stories about human existence and the ever long search for truth and happiness.
