In The Rain Sets Us Free Helgason takes stock of the “old Iceland” and engages in a provoking dialogue with the “new” country and the world around it. This isn’t a perfect world, much of it is reminiscent of the thirteenth century and will be squashed when the oil runs out, something has to burn. Poems about politics, love, joy, anger and irritation and the rain which washes away stories and sins and sets us free.
