Sis‘s Way is a sharp and unique story about outsiders being  given both a voice and a face.

Sis lives alone and impoverished in a basement, but she is self-sufficient. Like Brosi, her brother and ally in life, she has largely emancipated herself from Mother’s domination. Together they have faced the world since childhood but they have each chosen their own path, Brosi within society and Sis outside it. Sis supports herself day-to-day by collecting cans, but when she is offered more security in exchange for her freedom, it is a difficult decision to make.

Steinunn Sigurdardottir’s works are unique in their tone and breath. Her stories are both tragic and humorous, realistic and bizarre, and the style is playful and irresistible. Steinunn has created many unforgettable female characters – including the memorable Alda in The Thief of Time – and now Sis joins the roster.

FOUR STARS “Sis’s Way is a story about living on the fringe of society, about life’s hardest battles, but also about beauty, freedom and love for one’s fellow man. This is a story that stays with you, and continues to grow with you, although it is simple and might even convince readers to see the people they encounter on the street in a new light.”

RAGNHEIDUR BIRGISDOTTIR, MORGUNBLADID DAILY

“Sis’s Way is characterized by a novel way of thinking, as has become a hallmark of Steinunn’s work. The opposing forces in this narrative drama are powerful and true to contemporary issues. Both income distribution and questions of gender. This is an innovative fusion of literary genres, and the book is great fun to read. CONCLUSION: A subtly funny and entertaining work of fiction that plays with literary forms and prods at clichéd ways of thinking. Steinunn Sigurdardottir is especially well suited to shake up stilted discourse.”
