Revenge is Mine (2025)
When Bergthora, the widow in Hvammur comes upon a body in the open field, she immediately sees that the man has been murdered. She also knows that several of the people from the neighbouring farms bore a deep grudge against him. Not long before, a trial had taken place in Hvammur parish, where destitute individuals received unbearably harsh sentences for minor offenses. Many have wrongs to avenge, and more people may be in danger than just the corpse that lies before Bergthora in the first snow of winter.
Revenge Is Mine is the sequel to When Truth Sleeps, continuing the story of criminal investigations and romantic entanglements of the widow in Hvammur. At the same time, it sheds light on 18th-century morality and justice, particularly the social inequities that wealth and family background created when the rod of the law came down.
