More Punk, More Joy (2021)

It’s the biggest weekend of the summer and grandpa has started in on all the tall tales of his wild days at Iceland’s annual outdoor festival long before Idunn was born. What else can she and Maria Sara do but hold their own outdoor festival right in the backyard with a tent and singing and dancing and speeches and a bonfire (permission pending)? But it’s as if the girls run into a wall at every turn, and Mom has to resort to desperate measures.

More Punk, More Joy is the independent sequel and continuation of Idunn and Grandpa Punk, which delighted both punks and other readers to the tops of their mohawks. Gerdur Kristny puts her signature storytelling skills on display where punk is celebrated, all the rules are broken and joy rings out like a wild guitar solo.

I think it’s incredibly fun what she’s done … Books like this that are so richly and beautifully illustrated, these drawn by Halldor Baldursson, they’re an absolute treasure. It’s so important to have illustrated books as well, for kids that are still learning to enjoy reading for themselves… Wildly funny!... This is fantastic!

I’ll be damned if More Punk, Mory Joy isn’t even more fun than the last book about Idunn and her grandpa, the elderly punk rocker from Húsavík. … And if Gerdur Kristný is better at anything than sowing the seeds of punk rock in the minds of our youth then it’s describing outdoor festivals with a thoughtful eye to accentuating the positive in them. … It’s all a delight. Gerdur also has an uncanny knack for conjuring up the spirit of times when she was growing up. … Simply well done.
