It All Drew Nigh is the 19th collection of poems from national poet Thorsteinn fra Hamri to be published. Thorsteinn is a tireless, eloquent and poignant thinker, the poet who gives a voice to nature and history, the country and the life of its society. He writes poetry that strikes people in the heart, at times cruel and provocative, at others bittersweet and tender. It All Drew Nigh is a book that carries the echoes of history and the past, but also, at the same time, resonances of the contemporary world in which there is a burning need for this craft, pure poetry, to be savoured and cherished. There are also, throughout the book, reflections of the present day, indications of the Icelandic economic crash and the writer’s loathing of profiteering and financial crookery.
