Collected Poems (2009)

Ingibjorg Haraldsdottir’s poetry maps out a woman’s life from childhood, through youth and adulthood, while putting into words the lives and thoughts of the readers with remarkable insight. Her poems are heartfelt and often deeply funny, given to the reader as a personal gift.

Ingibjorg published five books of poetry, all of which have been out of print for some time. The most recent, Wherever I Will Be (Hvar sem ég verð, 2002), was awarded the Icelandic Literary Prize and was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize. Her poetry has been widely translated, appearing in both books and magazines internationally.

This collection brings all of Ingibjorg’s books of original poetry into a single volume as well as a selection of poems she has translated. This book is a treasure for lovers of poetry, offering invaluable insight into the work of one of Iceland’s most notable poets.

Reviews

Wherever I Will Be is surely the pinnacle in Ingibjorg Haraldsdottir’s career as a poet, and not only in her career but also a triumph for Icelandic poetry as a whole.

Soffia Audur Birgisdottir, Morgunbladid Daily

Her poetry surprises our senses with its concrete, passionate, sensual directness. Her language is never artificial, and her use of irony is restrained. Her poems are dense; emotion, temper and ardour pulsate in them: an unconcealed stand. Bridges between our inner life and outer reality.
