Short Stories

Footballers all have their positions to defend, both on and off the pitch. With piercing black humour, these stories tell us of the fullbacks, forwards, goalkeepers and other players on the pitch and on the bench, in reality and in dreams, and recounts their feats or would-have-been actions. The author has full control over her players and excels in attack, but leaves occasional gaps in the defense to allow the reader to run in and join the game.

Reviews

"This book is a work of art that isn’t just about sport, perhaps it’s about sport least of all. Issues of faith, philosophy, superstition, power, beauty and sex all come to the fore. Perhaps it’s first and foremost a piece of psychological fiction or an ode to human relations."
