The book is about growing up and stepping into adulthood, but it also tells a story of silence, guilt, and emotional abuse … Silence is indeed one of the book's main themes, and it addresses the toxic consequences of domestic violence and neglect ... I would particularly recommend it for young people, although all age groups should be able to relate to the story and enjoy the reading experience … Eyja has to face the loneliness of trying to be self-reliant without depending on anyone. She is forced to decide whether she can let go of the past and learn to trust others or if she will continue to carry the burden of her past alone … the author is an experienced writer, and the narrative is carefully structured and well-written. It is easy to sympathize with Eyja, yet she is fierce and sometimes repellent. At times, she reminded me of well-known anti-heroines from the novels of the American bestselling author Ottessa Moshfegh, but Eyja is also unique and a complex and convincing character ... Despite the book being short, it is rich in content and ties up loose ends in an intriguing way … Thrastardottir has a distinct and strong voice, and overall, Echoes of Silence is an excellent book well-suited for sparking conversations about challenging issues while also providing good entertainment.
