Alfrun Gunnlaugsdottir
(b.1938–2021) authored numerous novels and short stories. She won a number of commendations for her writing, including three nominations for the Nordic Council Literature Prize and two for the Icelandic Literary Prize. She won the Icelandic Women’s Literature Prize for her novel Ran, as well as The DV Cultural Prize for Literature.
“One of the finest qualities of this novel is how splendidly its fragmented form conveys the subject matter itself: the attempts of an old woman to comprehend her fractured memory. … An artfully constructed story.”
